Project Renaissance: Collecting a List of UX Issues for OOo Impress

Frank Loehmann
Hi,

I think/hope that most of you have already read the FAQ posting[1] from
Christoph and seen the video[2] from Andreas & Florian about status,
motivation and short term roadmap for Project Renaissance. This included
how we will proceed towards OOo 3.3.

We will focus on UX related issues in Impress and will improve the
interaction, especially on common task needed in every days work when
creating presentations. We will use our usage tracking data[3], survey
data[4] and your input to create a proposal for OOo Impress 3.3. This is
a kind of clear out before moving to a new house (in our case UI) and
fits very good to OOo's iterative development process.

I have already made some queries about UX related issues, but there are
not many flagged as such in the system. I am absolutely sure that we
have tons of UX related issues for Impress. So please join me to collect
a list of important issues to be considered when creating a plan for
Impress 3.3.

I have started a wiki page to collect those issues and to define common
tasks. Please feel free to add you favorites:

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Renaissance:Analyze

Thank you in advance for your help to take the next step with Project
Renaissance.

Best regards,

Frank

Re: [ux-discuss] Project Renaissance: Collecting a List of UX Issues for OOo Impress

Jaron Kuppers
Hi Frank,

Could you provide an example for the format that you would like to see on
the "Analyze" wiki page?  Or perhaps you want people to have free range in
their description?

By the way, I finally had time to watch the interview and take a good look
at the FAQs.  I think you guys did a great job addressing the issues that
kept arising and hopefully it will help prevent all the miscommunication
about the prototype and Renaissance in general.  The only bad news is I fear
we may lose Andreas to hollywood as he will likely become famous for his
starring role in the OOo youtube interview. ;-)  In all seriousness the
interview was a great format for helping people in the greater community or
the public who want to understand what is transpiring.

Cheers,
Jaron

I have added some examples. Please feel free to change
layout/information for the better.

I also think that this was a good idea. Thanks to Rosana, Florian and
Andreas for the video.

Please keep in mind that our goal for OOo 3.3 is to reduce the
complexity of Impress and make common interactions easier/faster. The
issue collection will just be a pool of issues that will be evaluated
when creating the UX proposal.

Best  regards,

Frank

Re: Project Renaissance: Collecting a List of UX Issues for OOo Impress

Elizabeth Matthis
In reply to this post by Frank Loehmann
Hi Frank, Hi All,
I have a list that was suggested to me by Christian Guenther (QA) but I
did not check them as to whether they address accessing functionality.
i29460
i39892
i43286
i48581
i50939
i52665
i56047
i60028
i62150
i62186
i62403
i77638
i80390
i82045
i84721
i95231
i97958
i99570
Can someone else check them to see if they fulfill the criteria that
Frank mentioned? (UX and Impress, etc)
I also asked Joost to contact the QA lists to ask them to retag any
issues they see as matching our criteria (Componet: Impress, Keyword
"usability"), so that a query will get more results. The short term
deadline is Oct 12 for issue collection.

It is my son's 4th birthday today, so 9 pirates will soon invade and I
must get offline and leave the country ;-)
Actually I have to prepare the food or they might eat me instead.
Pirates are dangerous folk. These ones even wield foam swords.

It's the pirates life for me!

Re: [ux-discuss] Project Renaissance: Collecting a List of UX Issues for OOo Impress

Frank Loehmann
In reply to this post by Frank Loehmann
Hi,

More than 20 new issues have been tagged as usability issues[1] so far.
Thank you very much!

I will check the list on Thursday this week. So please do not hesitate
to set the 'usability' keyword, if you know other important UX related
issues in Impress.

Best regards,

Frank
